How I Work

My approach is an ‘integrative humanistic’ one, which means that I believe the relationship we develop, of understanding, openness and trust, is foundational to our work together. I believe that you are the expert on your life. I will listen carefully to what has caused you to seek counselling and what you want to gain from the experience. I offer a safe, non-judgmental space with complete confidentiality. Sometimes words are difficult to find and I may offer you the opportunity to work creatively as a way of helping you to express yourself.

I use a number of different theoretical approaches, enabling me to work in a flexible way depending on what you want to gain from counselling and the length of time you want or are able to give to it. I am happy to work with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, or with forward thinking, problem solving ways, if that is what you would like.

During the first session, if you wish to proceed, we will contract together for an initial number of sessions. I am happy to work on a short term or long term basis and once we start I will regularly make sure that you are getting what you want from them.

I work from home in Guisborough and have a log cabin in the garden where I meet clients, ensuring privacy and confidentiality. I am able to offer appointments during the day and some evenings.
